Pointless Corp.

Introducing … HeyCraig

Today we’ve decided to announce our newest Pointless Corp. application: HeyCraig

With HeyCraig, you enter an item you are interested in purchasing, followed by your email, and your location. HeyCraig will keep an eye on Craigslist, and email you when items you want are available. It’s that easy.

We wanted to keep the interface as simple as possible, and we’re busy adding new features to the application as we speak. We’re always looking for feedback so feel free to post your ideas in the comments.

Here are some testimonials for you to enjoy from people already using HeyCraig:

“Before heycraig, I had no idea how much crap there was up on craigslist.
Now, I’m notified within an hour whenever the crap I’m looking for becomes
available. As a result, my acquisition of more crap has increased
dramatically. Thanks, heycraig!” – Brian Williams from Falls Church, VA

“heycraig helps me find what i need without getting distracted”
… “by ridiculous things like missed connections and free dirt and adult employment” – Kendra, from Chicago, IL

“I can’t get onto Heycraig tonight. You haven’t taken it down, have you? I NEED it!!!” – Michael, from the Woods of NC (editors note: We were having some server problems, sorry folks!)

Happy Craigslisting!

Very nice, but USA only? Boo!

Dudes. First, thanks for using the better quote.

Second, while I love this app, my love for this app would grow a million fold if you would implement my recommended enhancement. Including the first photo available of every listing you return within the email that’s sent would save me thousands of clicks and hundreds of hours. Please do it. No significant changes to the UI would be necessary. Just a “include a photo if there is one?” checkbox (and associated black magic) and bang! Awesome. Please. I beg you.

P.S. While considering this plea, don’t forget the first rule of pointless projects. Thanks!

HeyCraig, can you add Canadian cities to HeyCraig?

    For instance, http://toronto.craigslist.ca/

Awesome idea! This is actually something I’ve been wanting and lamenting it’s absence on CL.

    A constructive comment:

It’d be nice if it remembered my city

A complaint – I’m getting an awful lot of 500 server errors when trying it out.

I love Brian’s suggestion on images too!

Thanks, I look forward to using this not so pointless ap :)

How do I get this thing to stop? There seems to be no way to unsubscribe and I’m tired of being spammed by it!

Hi Jonathan, if you click on the “your custom search page” link in the heycraig emails, it will take you to page where you can delete your search, and stop getting emails for it.

@Jonathan If you wouldn’t mind giving us some feedback, we’re always looking to improve these apps as they mature. In the “spam” that is sent by heycraig, where it says: “You can also go to your custom search page where you can delete the search and stop getting emails.” How could we reword that to be more clear? We put that sentence in thinking it was pretty cut and dry but it is always a challenge to word things properly. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Nice little tool. How often does it check Craigslist? Once every hour? Once every day?

It would be great to be able to pick your category too.

IE: I have been waiting for a free bed frame to pop up (in the free category) I really have no desire to pay for one, so I only look in that category.

Also–for items for sale, it’s really nice to filter in CL by max price. It would be nice if Heycraig had that feature.

I would like to know how often Heycraig checks for updates? I would assume it’s no more than once per minute.

Hi… just tried this after seeing in lifehacker. great idea, several initial problems & ideas:

    1. nice to be zero-config and all but a login would be most welcome to manage searches.

    2. first time i entered a search and a city, i got something COMPLETELY different, different search item and different city.

    3. second time i entered a search which contained a space (MacBook Air) — i got unrelated results. searches should be treated as phrases.

    4. instead of email, an rss feed option would be really great.

    ok cheers.

I am trying to use HeyCraig, but I live in Vermont and its listed for the whole state, there is no city breakdown in craigslist, yet Vermont is not accepted under the City field for HeyCraig. Is there a solution?
